The Straight Knee Is The Most Basic And The Most Powerful...Learn How Here
The Muay Thai front knee can be used many different ways but the most basic is free standing. This is where you are not touching your opponent until the point of impact. You can get a lot of power because you are moving into your opponent.
Begin by stepping forward with the front foot to bridge the gap. Bring the rear knee up and forwards at a 45 degree angle and come up on the toes of your front foot.
The toes of the kneeing leg are pointed downwards as this makes the point of the knee more prominant. Aim for the legs, stomach, solar plexus, and head of your opponent.
The straight front knee can also be used very effectively in the clinch. When clinching, however, you are so close to your opponent that you have to make space to get the knee in between you and your opponent.
You do this by clasping the head and neck of your opponent, pushing him or her forward to make room, and then deliver the strike.
The strike can also be performed quite well with a jumping action into your opponent but this is usually done when your opponent cannot move like in the corner.
