Sometimes The Climbing Elbow Is Not Allowed In Modern Competition - It's Impressive If You Get To Use It

This is the elbow that was seen fairly often in the "Ong Bak" movie but is rarely seen in the Muay Thai ring; but some people have done it. You can get away with it if your opponent is very tired, not moving and up against the ropes or in the corner.

You perform the move by stepping forward with your back foot on top of your opponents front thigh. You spring up with that leg and move your left foot onto your opponents right shoulder. You now use your right elbow to strike downwards on top of his/her head while holding on with your left hand.

This video shows a pretty detailed demonstration on how to do this elbow.

I haven't seen it done in competition for a long time mainly because most fighters don't agree to it; even in Thailand.

Both fighters have to agree to the rules before the match gets under way and most people these days think it's too dangerous.

It looks pretty spectacular though but make sure if you practice it you choose a parnter that has pretty strong legs. This technique, however, can be done without the climbing part if you jump upwards and forwards towards your opponent. http://www.youtube.com/v/JTCHmrRmELg
