The Hook Punch In Muay Thai Can Help You Get Around The Opponents Guard

The front hook punch is obviously thrown with the front hand and can be used with both advancing and retreating.

Assume a good Muay Thai stance with both your hands at eyebrow level. Pivot your front foot inward so that your toes of either foot are facing each other.

Rotate your hips in a clockwise direction (if you're right handed) and snap your front shoulder. The front arm travels in a arc with a bend in the elbow about 45 degrees.

The fist turns horizontal to the floor and the elbow follows it along this horizontal plane. The fist should hit the target with the front of the knuckles aiming for the jaw or cheek bone.

The rear hook is delivered with the back hand and is usually thrown whilst attacking.

Step forward with the front foot and begin pivoting with the rear foot so that both sets of toes face each other.

Rotate the hips and torso in an anti-clockwise direction (if you're right handed) and snap the right shoulder.

The arm travels in an arc with the elbow bent at about 45 degrees.

Torque the wrist inward so the palm is horizontal with the ground and stike the target with the front of the knuckles.
