Most Western Boxers Defend The Hook Punch Incorrectly For Muay Thai
In Muay Thai it's very dangerous to bob and weave as this is a sure way to get a knee to your head. As with all Muay Thai defence you can boil hook punch defence down to 5 tactics.
1. You can move out of the way by using your footwork to retreat or keeping your feet where they are and leaning back with your upper body.
2. You can parry the attack but this is not advisable against the hook punch as it is short and quick.
3. You can shield yourself and let the hook hit your guard which is the most common form of defence.
4. You can neutralise the hook punch with an attack of your own like the push kick which is a longer weapon and will keep your opponent at bay.
5. The fifth form of defence is to catch the attacking weapon which again is highly unlikely against the hook punch because it's so short and fast.
