The Muay Thai Horizontal Elbow Is Easy To Learn But Devastatingly Effective

The horizontal elbow is the most basic elbow of Muay Thai as it resembles a hook punch in it's movement which most people know how to do naturally. Therefore most people seem to pick it up quite easily.

The object is the same as all elbows which is to cut the skin of your opponents face with a knockout as the secondary objective. It is thrown from close range and is usually set up with punches, kicks, and knees.

To perform the horizontal you must first move in to your opponent by stepping forward. Rotate your hips and torso in the direction the elbow is heading.

Snap the shoulder. The elbow should be on a horizontal path to the target (face) whilst keeping the elbowing hand close to the chest. Strike with the tip of the elbow to the cheek bone or eyebrow of your opponent.
