Kickboxing Virtual Game Article

If your a women and interested in training for Muay Thai kickboxing your not alone!

Women are starting Thai kickboxing in droves and excelling because of their physical characteristics! Just think of the average body types of the people who invented Muay Thai; they are mostly shorter and more slightly built.

The Thai people have no trouble generating massive power and effectiveness from their techniques and women are very much the same. A girl has most of her muscle mass and strength in her legs, hips, and backside which is just what is needed for devastating kicks and knees.

The most feared weapon in Muay Thai is the elbow which does not require much strength or muscle mass to be effective and women have no problem with this.

The least feared weapons of Muay Thai are the punches which is the only part of Thai boxing that women cannot hope to compete with men in. So all in all Muay Thai seems to be very well suited to the female frame.

Plus, women seem to be aversive to martial arts that require you to get into close physical proximity to males and roll around on he floor with them for great periods of time. That just seems to be my observation. The PCYC (Police Citizens Youth Club) where I train has both Muay Thai, and Ju Jitsu classes and there are much fewer females to males at Ju Jitsu. Our Muay Thai classes are over-run by girls at the moment.

Women also seem to come to our classes with the notion that Muay Thai kickboxing will get them into the best shape of their lives which is quite true. Just take a look at some of the pictures of just regular type Muay Thai kickboxing girls and you'd have to agree they look stunning. The pro Muay Thai women fighters are absolutely fabulous.

If you have the impression that female fighters have to be masculine just look and see. Even some of the world champions look like models... and these are hard girls. There is nothing more empowering for a young woman than knowing how to handle herself, prove it under pressure of competition, and look great doing it. It's the perfect sport or martial art for women.

Even in Thailand the culture is changing. Women are regularly competing in full contact Muay Thai fights all over the country. Muay Thai training camps were traditionally off limits to females as it was seen as taking away from the fighting spirit of the males.

Now some camps take students who are male, female and children.

The culture in Thailand has been so pro male for so long that the level of female Thai boxers has been lower than the rest of the world. The foreign Muay Thai women were coming over and beating most of them. In the last decade this has begun to change as some Thais have been enthusiastically trying to improve the numbers and quality of their female fighters. The change has been slow, however, and foreign Muay Thai women still have the advantage over their Thai counterparts.

If you're thinking about training in Muay Thai in your home town though it's exactly the same for females as it is males. The only difference in fighting in Thailand is that the rounds go for two minutes with two minute breaks and the men go for three minute rounds with a minutes break. In the West the rounds and breaks differ from place to place and competition to competition. It's usually decided between your trainer and the promoter. For information on training techniques and tips just go to the home page of this site.

One of the best sites around for womens only Muay Thai kickboxing information is womenkickboxing.com. It's completely dedicated to womens kickboxing and female Muay Thai. It has female fighter profiles, photo galleries, fight results/reports, a forum and even a section on female vs male fights.
